ERMUA, A LIVING TOWN

ERMUA

Ermua is a living town characterized by the atmosphere you can find here, the bubbling activity of its groups, and its cultural life. This dynamism is also reflected in its economic activity, its trade, industry, and the innovation of the Izarra Centre project.

FESTIVE ATMOSPHERE

We can highlight the popular nature of the annual festivities of the town: “Santiagos”, held in July, the Carnival in February, and the San Martin Fair in November.

NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

Also worth mentioning is its natural setting. The town is located in between the Urko, Oiz, and Ureta hills, which offer nature-lovers an endless range of hill walks up peaks and down valleys starting from the centre of town. In particular we would encourage you to stroll through the rural area of BERANO, or to walk around the AIXOLA LAKE.

HISTORY

There are two palaces, that of the Marquis de Valdespina and the Lobiano Palace, of which the residents of Ermua are particularly proud, in view of the spectacular Baroque façade of the former (currently the town hall), and the renaissance beauty of the latter, now a cultural centre.

PLACES OF INTEREST

In order to complete the tour of the architectural jewels, we may see the harmonious view formed by the twin towers of the Valdespina Palace and the Santiago Apostol Church.

LEISURE

At the end of your day, Ermua offers you a good opportunity to enjoy a moment of relaxation, tasting some tapas with the townsfolk, feeling like you are just one of the locals in this open and dynamic town.

As it is located in the centre of the town, guests staying at the Mélida Ostatua can access all cultural, sporting, and leisure activities offered by the town: cinema, theatre, nightlife, gastronomy, concerts, conferences, library, sports centre, swimming pool, fronton, hill-walking routes… We can provide you with all information on these activities.
